About a month ago, I was doing a door-to-door sales job with a company called Zee Solutions based at Belgrave House in Sheffield (so they claim). Anyway, I have never been for a door-to-door job nor commission so a job scam wasn’t that visible to me.
Now, my Mum told me about one lass who worked there 6 months (about a week into me working there) who didn’t get a penny off of them despite making sales for the company and was eventually forced to quit when her parents stepped in and she reported them to the job centre and the company merely got a fine and she still didn’t receive any pay.
Now, a week after my Mum told me this I quit as the hours were 60 hours a week, I was selling something I didn’t believe in and in all honesty I rather work for charities and despite making sales I haven’t been paid a penny either.
Now, today I have had an interview for another job at a door-to-door fundraising company, noticed a big difference in the company layout (one the lack of cheap suits), leaflets, proper laid out presentations and although it could make the company seem dodgy, Zee Solutions had a pretty snazzy office, but it was kinda too good to be true in a sense, I have been with charities volunteering before and no offence but offices are pretty shabby, such as this one. The company went through legal regs though, checked ID, did everything you would expect and I saw a definite difference, they had a more ethical approach to door-to-door, Zee Solutions and any company in Belgrave House push sales or donations, this company work on the rule, no means no but try and get a reason, we are also paid hourly if I get the job.
Anyway, with it being a group interview, during a break we were just talking about previous jobs we’ve applied for, and most of us said we’d applied to Belgrave House companies, and I get at least 7 names of "companies" claiming to work from 4 small offices within this building which seems unrealistic, almost all got offered the job straight away, the companies refused to discuss pay (when I worked with Zee Solutions they always said never to discuss pay with and interviewee cos it would put them off the job, but if the pay is meant to be as great as you say why would it put them off), one lad who went there didn’t even get a work contract which just doesn’t seem right or even legal.
Something dodgy is definitely going on in this office, you don’t get so many people complaining about one building cos it is becoming a no go for job searchers in Sheffield, the job centre seems to only be giving a slap on the wrist of a fine when me personally think every company in that office should be shut down as they are not paying employees in most cases and the worse of it is they are advertising to those straight out of college, school and uni and putting them in difficult financial situations.
Now, I’m wanting to go and report this building, however I’m not sure who I need to report it too.
Who do I report this too?
Me, I’m not after a get rich quick plan, this place I have applied for now is an hourly rate unlike the other I did and if they say otherwise I have a contract that says I’m paid hourly so… This time I’ll be raising money for charity.
Btw, you say don’t do door-to-door, honestly, offer me a job that isn’t door-to-door and I’ll take it, but right now even McDonalds is telling me I don’t have enough work experience for them to employ me.
Report them to a company called ACAS. I have used them for a little stall I worked on once who never paid me and he got shut down.
